Counseling to help you manage the demands of adult life
After many decades of counseling individuals, families, and groups, I have come to appreciate the power of the healing principle in all of us. Every one has the capacity to grow, heal, and stabilize. A seasoned, skillful therapist guides and empowers the patientís own innate strength and healing capacities.
Counseling or psychotherapy can be helpful to people, whether they are facing the very ordinary but demanding problems of adult life or the extraordinary difficulties of dealing with catastrophic loss, grief, illness and trauma. My approach might best be described as a "relationship based" approach. Where this is appropriate, I integrate the wisdom of mindfulness.
For some individuals another tool, known as EMDR has been very successful in resolving "stuck" places within.
- Increased self esteem and feelings of well-being.
- Reduced anxiety: Individuals suffering from chronic and/or acute fearfulness, nervousness, or phobic reactions can find relief with psychotherapy.
- Mood problems: Individuals struggling with depression, instability of mood, and/or numbness report improvement and relief.
- Improvement in key relationships : Maintaining intimate relationships is a major and ongoing challenge of adult life frequently addressed by psychotherapy.
- Processing of grief reactions: In addition to "bereavement," grief includes the intense grief following the end of a marriage, or the grief that some parents feel when the nest empties out, the failure of a business or career, retirement, or the loss of good health (see article on grief on "articles" pages).
